November 15 Webinar – 2023 Lancet Countdown U.S. Launch Event
Wednesday, November 15, 2023 | Virtual | 12:00 PM ET
Please join The Lancet Countdown and the American Public Health Association for the 2023 Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change U.S. Virtual Launch. The event will be held on Wednesday, November 15th at 12 PM EST to dive into the findings and recommendations from the 2023 global report and U.S. Brief. Hear about the latest trends in public health and climate change with leading experts in the field. These highly anticipated annual reports will be released the day before on November 14th at 6:30 PM EST.
The annual global report tracks the impact of climate change on human health and is a product of experts from 52 global institutions, and the companion U.S. Brief is supported by over 80 U.S. institutions, organizations, and centers. The 2023 U.S. Brief highlights the state of climate change, health, and equity in the U.S. and provides policy recommendations for ensuring health and equity are maximized in climate policy and action.
The launch event will include presentations by the 2023 Lancet Countdown U.S. Brief lead author Naomi S. Beyeler, PhD, MPH, MCP and senior and global report author, Renee N. Salas, MD, MPH, MS. The key messages from the Global Report will be presented by Marina Romanello, PhD, the Executive Director of The Lancet Countdown, and Jeremy Hess, MD, MPH, a global report and U.S. Brief author. The launch will include keynote remarks and Georges Benjamin, MD, the Executive Director of APHA, will moderate an engaging panel discussion on the state of healthy climate action in the U.S.
The 2023 Report of the Lancet Countdown will be launched ahead of the 28th UN Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP28), which will – for the first time – feature health as a key theme, with an official Health Day and a climate-health ministerial. The report contributes to the evidence needed to inform the negotiations and deliver equitable health-protecting action on climate change.
