The Consortium Celebrates Black History Month With A Commitment To Anti-Racism

Every day, health professionals across the country see the impacts of climate change on their patients and communities. While everyone’s health is threatened, we recognize that, as a result of structural racism, some people are more at risk simply because of the color of their skin.

We believe that all people deserve an equal opportunity to live a healthy life on a healthy planet. That’s why the Consortium has committed to addressing structural racism in our internal and external work.

“The Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health is committed to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace and the promotion of equitable and anti-racist climate policies and activities.”

To achieve a more equitable and just climate future for all, we commit to:

  • Promoting climate policies and activities that advance health equity and racial justice in collaboration with our partners at the local, state, and national levels
  • Engaging our members, affiliates, and partners to directly address and incorporate anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion in their membership, policies and practices, and advocacy
  • Being a living example of these commitments by developing a Consortium workforce that is representative of the nation’s diversity and by implementing policies and practices that give each team member an opportunity to grow in their knowledge, skill, and engagement in diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racist activities on the issues in order to thrive in the workplace

In aligning our mission with these commitments, we are launching a new DEI-A plan with several key goals. Read our full diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism statement here. We hope this will serve as an invitation to join us in this urgently important work and hold us accountable as we collaborate for health equity and racial justice.

It is critical that equity and anti-racism remain at the center of our work so that the health promise of climate solutions can truly be fulfilled for everyone. We encourage our network of individual advocates and health organizations to join us in our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism by making the connection and using these racial equity toolkits and resources to take action.
